사이버 디스토피아에서 살아남기Overcoming Cyber Dystopia

디지털 세상이 점점 더 우리의 삶에 큰 비중을 차지해가는 시대에 개인 정보 보호, 감시, 중앙화된 권한에 의한 통제에 대한 우려가 무엇보다 중요해졌습니다. 정부와 기업이 우리의 디지털 삶에 더 많은 영향력을 행사함에 따라 기술이 개인을 통제하고 감시하며 조작하는 세상-사이버 디스토피아-에 더 가까워지고 있습니다. 하지만, 우리는 이러한 상황 속에서도 탈중앙화 된 플랫폼인 이더리움과 함께 새로운 위협을 극복하고자 합니다.

In an era where the digital world is increasingly pervasive, concerns about privacy, surveillance, and centralized control have become paramount. As governments and corporations exert more influence over our digital lives, the concept of a cyber dystopia—a scenario where technology is used to control, monitor, and manipulate individuals—looms large. However, we want to overcome this new threat with Ethereum, a decentralized, transparent platform, even in this situation.

사이버 디스토피아란 Understanding Cyber Dystopia

우리는 사이버 디스토피아를 특정 주체가 디지털 세계의 기술을 통해 개인에 대한 광범위한 감시와 통제를 하거나 동의 없이 개인 데이터의 광범위한 수집과 행동을 감시하고 조작하기 위해 이 데이터를 사용하는, 혹은 사용하려고 시도할 수 있는 세계라고 정의합니다. 현재 각국의 정부는 그 수준은 달리하더라도 보안 목적으로 감시를 사용하고 있습니다. 이는 반대 의견의 억압과 시민 자유의 침해로 이어질 수 있습니다. 또한, 감시의 존재만으로도 자유로운 생각을 하기 어려워질 수 있습니다. 기업도 마찬가지로 이익을 위해 개인 데이터를 악용하여 사생활을 침해하는 광고를 하거나 그 외 데이터의 원치 않는 사용을 할 수 있습니다.

A cyber dystopia is characterized by the pervasive surveillance and control of individuals through digital means. It involves the extensive collection of personal data, often without consent, and the use of this data to monitor and manipulate behavior. Governments may use surveillance for security purposes, but it can also lead to the suppression of dissent and the erosion of civil liberties. Similarly, corporations may exploit personal data for profit, leading to invasive advertising and data breaches that compromise privacy.

Track 1 Privacy & Freedom - Protecting Privacy and Civil Liberties

사이버 디스토피아로 나아가는 세상의 방향을 돌리기 위해 풀어야 할 시급한 문제는 개인 정보 보호와 시민의 자유 침해입니다. 이더리움은 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위한 여러 메커니즘을 제공합니다. 이 트랙은 다음과 같은 주제들을 포함한 개인 정보 보호 기술, 혹은 모든 탈중앙화 기술과 관련된 주제로 진행됩니다.

  • 탈중앙화된 신원 시스템: 전통적인 신원 시스템은 중앙 집중식이며 침해에 취약합니다. 이더리움 기반의 탈중앙화된 신원 시스템은 신뢰할 수 있는 당사자와 필요한 정보만 공유하면서 개인이 자신의 신원을 안전하게 관리할 수 있도록 합니다.

  • 개인정보 보호: 이더리움은 개인정보 보호를 위한 기술 개발에 적극적으로 나서고 있습니다. 예를 들어 zk-SNARK(Zero-Knowledge Sucinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge)는 사용자가 세부 정보를 밝히지 않고 특정 조건의 유효성을 증명할 수 있도록 함으로써 정보를 숨길 수 있게합니다.

One of the most pressing concerns in a cyber dystopia is the erosion of privacy and civil liberties. Ethereum offers several mechanisms to address these issues. The track is about privacy preserving technologies, including the following topics, or all decentralization related technologies.

  • Decentralized identity systems: Traditional identity systems are centralized and vulnerable to encroachment. Ethereum-based decentralized identity systems allow individuals to securely manage their identity while sharing only the information they need with trusted parties.

  • Privacy: Ethereum is actively working on developing technology to protect privacy. For example, zk-SNARK allows users to hide information by allowing them to prove the validity of certain conditions without disclosing details.

Track 2 Digital Democracy - Combating Political Monopolization

세계 여러 곳에서 정치는 집중화 된 권력에 의해 시행되어 독점과 반대 의견에 대한 억압 문제가 발생합니다. 이더리움 체인 기반 투표 시스템은 선거의 무결성과 투명성을 보장할 수 있습니다. 또한 이더리움은 더 발전된 투표 시스템인 제곱 투표(Quadratic voting) 등 새로운 시스템을 실험할 수 있는 좋은 플랫폼이 될 수 있습니다. 이 트랙은 이더리움이 투명한 거버넌스, 탈중앙화된 소셜 서비스 등 디지털 민주주의에 어떻게 기여할 수 있는지에 관한 주제로 진행됩니다.

  • 탈중앙화된 자율 조직: DAO는 이더리움 블록체인의 스마트 계약에 의해 통제되는 조직입니다. 중앙 통제 없이 투명하게 운영되어 민주적인 의사 결정 과정을 가능하게 합니다.

In many parts of the world, politics is enforced by centralized powers, leading to problems of monopolies and suppression of dissent. An Ethereum chain-based voting system can ensure election integrity and transparency. Ethereum can also be a good platform to experiment with new systems, such as quadratic voting, a more advanced voting system. The track is about the theme of how Ethereum can contribute to digital democracy, including transparent governance, decentralized social services, and more.

  • Decentralized autonomous organization: DAO is an organization controlled by smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. It operates transparently without central control, enabling a democratic decision-making process.

Track 3 The Road Ahead

이더리움이 사이버 디스토피아에 대처할 수 있는 강력한 도구임은 틀림없습니다. 하지만, 이더리움이 바로 현실 세계에 적용되기에는 여전히 어려움이 있습니다. 이더리움 커뮤니티는 확장성, 사용성을 해결하기 위해 적극적으로 연구, 개발 인프라 구축을 진행함과 동시에 탈중앙화의 가치, 개인 정보 보호, 투명성의 가치를 사람들에게 전하기 위해 교육을 포함한 다양한 방식으로 노력하고 있습니다. 이 트랙은 트랙 1과 트랙 2 외의 다양한 주제를 모두 포함해서 진행됩니다.

Ethereum must be a powerful tool to deal with cyber dystopia. However, it is not without its challenges to apply in reality. The Ethereum community is actively researching and developing to address scalability and usability, while also working in various ways, including education, to convey the value of decentralization, privacy, and transparency to people. This track includes a variety of topics other than topics which are for track 1 and track 2.

결론 Conclusion

사이버 디스토피아의 위협은 현실로 다가오고 있지만 극복할 수 없는 것은 아닙니다. 이더리움의 탈중앙화되고 투명한 프레임워크를 통해 현재의 중앙 집중식 시스템에 강력한 대안을 고민해볼 수 있습니다.

다가오는 컨퍼런스에서 이러한 주제에 대해 우리가 어떤 방식으로 일하고 연구하고 있는지 공유함으로써 어떻게 감시와 통제의 효율성에 우리의 자유를 타협하지 않고 기술로써 보다 투명하고 안전한 사회를 구축할 수 있는지 공유해 주셨으면 좋겠습니다. 우리의 자유를 지키는 것은 작은 노력으로부터 시작됩니다. 거창한 내용이 아니더라도 여러분들의 기여, 노력은 모두 진정한 자유를 만드는 움직임입니다. 이번 이드콘 2024에서 여러분들의 참여를 기다리고 있습니다.

The threat of cyber dystopia is coming true, but it is not insurmountable. Ethereum’s decentralized and transparent framework allows us to think about strong alternatives to the current centralized system.

At the upcoming conference, I would like you to share how we can build a more transparent and safe society with technology without compromising our freedom on the efficiency of monitoring and control.
